Emmanuales is the brewing project of Hop Forward. Although Emmanuales has existed since 2014, in 2020 we felt that the brand needed refreshing to appeal to both craft beer drinkers and the church-goer gift market. Whilst we’ve been keen never to force religion down people’s throats (only beer), we felt that the logo need attention and commissioned local artist Lewis Ryan (Abbeydale Brewery, Amundsen, Hammerton Brewery) to recreate the logo in his artistic style, which Hop Forward could then build around.
In light of the brand’s unique identity, we aimed to maintain a consistent religious theme that balances the line between respectfulness and lightheartedness. To achieve this goal, we utilized a blend of Gothic and Sans Serif fonts, integrated traditional religious imagery with playful brewing paraphernalia, and devised witty beer names that draw inspiration from both Christian history and contemporary cultural references.
